PERSONAL  DEVELOPMENT
The student will learn about genealogy, personal relationships, housing, consumer education as well as other topics.

Any student may enroll in this course.  Credit is given either as a social studies elective or as an occupational/vocational elective.

 

COOKING
In this course students will learn kitchen safety, recipe reading, measuring, and a variety of cooking techniques.   You will plan and prepare meals for yourself and other class members.

Credit earned in occupational/vocational or elective areas.  Any student can take this course.

 

INDEPENDENT LIVING
This course will cover all areas of Family and Consumer Science.  Basic cooking, sewing, consumer education and math, child care, and relationships will all be a part of this curriculum.

Initial level course.  Students can earn credit in occupational/vocational or elective areas.

 

CHILD  DEVELOPMENT (GRADS)

This course teaches the development of a child from birth to age five.  Physical, social, and emotional development are covered.  Students will discuss parenting techniques.  The main goals of this class are to provide pregnant and parenting adolescents with the skills needed to have a healthy pregnancy and child, parent effectively, increase their self-esteem, and evaluate their future goals regarding economic independence.

Students can earn credit in occupational/vocational or elective areas.  Any student who is pregnant or parenting, even if their child is not enrolled in the child care should enroll in this class.  Any student with a child in the child care, or any student working in the child care lab must be in this course.

 

CHILD CARE LAB

This course is designed for students who want to learn about working with children.  Students will be required to plan activities for the children in the child care, reading supplemental materials, and lead learning experiences for children.   Students will help Merle with the children and complete any task necessary in the operational structure of the child care.

All students must be 16 and fill out a criminal record check before they can work in the child care.  All parents who have children in the child care must take this class.

Students will earn occupational/vocational or elective credit.
