WASL Information

This is a very important time as results from the spring 2006 high school Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) in reading, writing and mathematics are being returned home. The results are intended for your family to review and use to help determine the next steps in your child’s academic path. Students who did not pass one or more sections of the WASL this spring have multiple options to help them meet this important expectation:

  1. o Summer school classes focusing in on essential skills in reading, writing and mathematics.
  2. o At least four more retake options on any section of the WASL, starting with retests the week of August 7-10. Registration for the August retake is required. Either go online - http://www.k12.wa.us/WASLRegistration -- or call 866-400-9275 by July 9, 2006. Students can take the retest anywhere in the state to accommodate vacations or different living schedules during the summer.
  3. o New alternatives beginning in the fall of 2006 will allow students who have the skills demonstrate them in a more individualized way. Students must have taken the high school WASL at least twice, however, to access these alternatives.

Families with students in special education who took a different test than the WASL will receive score results back later this summer. Retakes for students with IEPs will be scheduled for the fall.

OSPI has developed a number of resources with students and families in mind. To learn more about Washington’s academic standards and the WASL, please visit http://www.WASL2006.com.
